Pros
Awara is dedicated to producing non-toxic, eco-friendly products. The company avoids memory foam and poly foam, substituting these with more natural materials such as latex, New Zealand wool, and organic cotton.
All Awara mattresses come with a 365-night sleep trial and a lifetime warranty, allowing you to make a worry-free purchase.
Awara partnered with “Trees for the Future” to plant 10 trees for every Awara purchase.
Cons
The medium firmness of this bed should be appealing to many sleepers, but those looking for a softer or firmer bed may not be keen on the Awara Natural.
Some customer reviewers stated that the bed began to sag after a short period of time. We didn’t notice this during testing, but then again, we aren’t sleeping on it on a nightly basis.

Who We Recommend the Awara Natural Hybrid For:

  • People looking for bounce – The combination of latex and coils sets sleepers up for a bouncy experience. This is great for combination sleepers looking for facilitated repositioning.
  • Eco-friendly shoppers – This product may be more expensive than other brands featuring different materials out there, but it’s delivering a lot of value. These materials’ certifications show the company’s determination to go greener, making it a good option for eco-friendly shoppers.
  • Hot sleepers – The Awara offers plenty of cooling. First, the cotton and organic wool cover is designed to wick away moisture and promote airflow. Second, Awara uses latex, which doesn’t hold in heat the way memory foam does. Third, the coils help foster additional airflow throughout the center of the bed.

Who We Don’t Recommend the Awara Natural Hybrid For:

  • Budget shoppers – Awara is a brand with a more premium price tag. Keeping that in mind, this high-end hybrid is sold for competitively less than what you are likely to find in a mattress retail store, especially with this much premium latex. Nonetheless, budget shoppers may prefer a cheaper mattress.
  • Restless sleepers – The high bounce of latex and coils is great for some, but those seeking exceptional motion isolation may want to search for a memory foam bed instead.

Customer Reviews of the Awara Natural Hybrid Mattress

With over 1,500 reviews, the Awara Natural Hybrid has earned 4.7 out of 5 stars on the company’s website. Many consumers love how comfortable the mattress is, and one even said it was a “life changer.” Those who weren’t as happy with their purchase cited the lack of edge support, while others stated that it wasn’t firm enough for them.

Testing the Awara Natural Hybrid Mattress

Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology

We tested the Awara Natural Hybrid mattress to better evaluate what sleeping positions it’s good for. We tested it for side, back, and stomach sleeping, but we also included tests for motion isolation, edge support, and other preference-based features important to many people. This way, we can provide a more accurate analysis of who we’d recommend this bed to.

Firmness & Feel

Firmness Scale: 6/10

Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your body type will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers might experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.

Mattress Firmness Level 6

Mattress firmness is a representation of how soft or hard a mattress feels. While this is subjective, it does help provide a general overview of what most people can expect from a bed.

Our team rated the Awara Natural Hybrid mattress a 6 on our firmness scale, where 1 is the softest and 10 is the firmest. Being within the middle of the scale, the Awara should be versatile and comfortable for a range of sleepers.

How Does It Feel?

When you first settle into bed, you’ll be met with the plush pillow top that has a soft and luxurious feel thanks to the inclusion of organic cotton and breathable New Zealand wool. The 2 inches of cooling Dunlop latex should cradle your curves nicely, while the individually pocketed coils provide pushback support for your spine.

You can immediately feel the plush top layers cradling the body without taking away from the support level of the coil unit underneath.

Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types

Awara doesn’t have an official weight limit for this mattress. However, since this mattress isn’t specifically designed for heavyweight sleepers, we would recommend that individual sleepers above 300 pounds go with a different bed designed for heavyweight sleepers. This will help ensure they get the support they need.

Side Sleepers

  • Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight side sleepers may find this Awara mattress too firm because they may not be able to activate the 2-inch layer of Dunlop latex. Although latex is bouncy and should allow a bit of cradling, side sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds might find pressure building up in the shoulder and hip areas.
  • Average-Weight Sleepers – We think that average-weight side sleepers, especially those weighing closer to 200 pounds, should like how the Natural Hybrid feels on the shoulders and hips. Their weight should be enough to sink into the latex layer enough to prevent pressure build-up.
  • Heavyweight Sleepers – Side sleepers weighing over 230 pounds should benefit from this Awara mattress, especially if they prefer softer beds. However, significantly heavier people may need a firmer mattress to keep the spine aligned.

Explore the best mattresses for side sleepers.

Back Sleepers

  • Lightweight Sleepers – Lightweight back sleepers should find sufficient support and pressure relief in the lumbar area. However, people weighing significantly under 130 pounds may need a softer bed to prevent pressure from building up in the lower back.
  • Average-Weight Sleepers – The Awara Natural Hybrid is a good choice for average-weight back sleepers as it offers a balance of pressure relief and support needed in this position. They sink into the Dunlop latex layer just enough to avoid pressure build-up.
  • Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavyweight back sleepers should like this Awara hybrid as the coils offer sufficient support in the lumbar area. However, significantly heavier people might need a firmer mattress to prevent the hips from sinking in.

Browse the best mattresses for back sleepers.

Stomach Sleepers

  • Lightweight Sleepers – Stomach sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds should benefit from Awara’s Dunlop latex layer that cradles the body to prevent pressure from building up in the hip area.
  • Average-Weight Sleepers – Average-weight stomach sleepers will sink deeper than lightweight sleepers. However, the medium firmness of this layer and the coils underneath still do a good job of holding the body in alignment when sleeping on your stomach.
  • Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavyweight sleepers should still find this bed comfortable and supportive enough in this position. However, those weighing significantly over 230 pounds might prefer a firmer bed to prevent the midsection from sinking in.

Discover the best mattresses for stomach sleepers.

Pressure Relief

5/5

Awara’s approach to pressure relief starts with the plush Euro top that envelops your body for immediate cradling comfort. Next, Dunlop latex foam contours to your body’s curves, allowing heavier areas to sink deeper while keeping the rest of your body adequately supported.

The Awara Natural Hybrid is rated at a 6 on our firmness scale of 1-10. Therefore, this mattress has a true medium feel that should deliver vital pressure relief while keeping your body lifted for good alignment.

Is the Awara Natural Hybrid Mattress Good for Pain Relief?

The Awara Natural Hybrid should be a solid selection for those who would like to alleviate or prevent aches and pains. We think it does a good job of keeping a sleeper’s spine well-aligned to ease back pain while the hips and shoulders are eased by the Dunlop latex.

Back Pain

People with back pain should find sufficient support in the Awara’s medium firmness. The bed does a good job of holding your body in alignment, especially in back and stomach sleeping positions that are most prone to back pain. Find more beds for back pain here.

Hip Pain

Hip pain usually occurs when sleeping on your side, so you need a mattress that cushions the hip area in this position. The Awara’s gentle New Zealand wool cover and the Dunlop latex underneath should offer enough cushioning, depending on the sleeper’s weight.

Read More: Best Mattress for Hip Pain

Shoulder Pain

People with shoulder pain may find it increasing when they sleep on their side. For this reason, they could benefit from the Awara’s upper layers that cradle sensitive points to prevent pain and pressure from building up. However, significantly lightweight sleepers may prefer something softer against their shoulders.

Support

4/5

While the Dunlop latex foam is thick and resilient enough to keep the spine aligned, the coils act as the real support center, delivering quality stability that simultaneously sports bounce. These coils are individually wrapped, so they compress independently to offer head-to-toe support in just the right spots.

The end result is a balance of support for the spine coupled with relief for the shoulders and hips. Plus, the bed’s mid-range firmness should provide sufficient support for most sleepers. The only exception may be sleepers above 230 pounds and some stomach sleepers who may prefer something firmer.

Motion Isolation

3/5

Moton isolation is important for couples, especially if the partners have different sleeping habits. Memory foam is usually the best choice for motion isolation as it absorbs movement to prevent it from transferring from one side of the bed to the other. Latex is bouncier, which is why this Awara doesn’t have the best motion isolation. Partners with similar sleeping habits should find the Natural Hybrid mattress comfortable enough, but those tossing and turning may prefer something with memory foam.

Temperature Regulation / Cooling

4/5

Hybrid mattresses are cooler by nature because the coils allow the air to flow through the entire construction. This prevents the bed from overheating, which is crucial for those who sleep hot. In addition, the Awara Natural Hybrid has breathable Dunlop latex, New Zealand wool, and organic cotton that further help with cooling and breathability.

Bounce

5/5

The combination of latex and springs gives this bed a high level of bounce that should come in handy for sexually active couples and individuals with limited mobility, as it should help them reposition easily.

Edge Support

5/5

A bed with strong edges keeps the sleeper level and comfortable when sleeping here, while a bed without edge supportcould make you feel like you might stumble onto the floor. To ensure a secure sleeping space, Awara has reinforced edges.

Performance for Couples

4/5

We think that many couples should appreciate the Awara’s edge support that prevents the perimeter from collapsing when you sleep and sit in this area. This allows you to use the entire surface of the bed without worrying you could slip off of the edges. On top of that, the mattress has versatile firmness that should fit many sleepers. However, some couples may prefer a bed with better motion isolation, which is why it earned a 4 out of 5 here.

Preference-Based Features

Bed in a Box

The Awara arrives at your doorstep via contactless delivery, rolled and compressed in weatherproof packaging. Set-up should be quick and easy, thanks to the four built-in handles.

Eco-Conscious Materials

From the cover to the base, Awara is one of the most eco-friendly beds you’ll find on the market. The bed features natural and organic materials, water-based adhesives, and multiple environmentally friendly certifications.

Adjustable Base Compatible

This bed is suitable for any base with a solid foundation, including box springs, slated platforms, or adjustable bases.

Construction: What’s Inside the Awara Natural Hybrid?

The surface is furnished with breathable, natural cotton and New Zealand wool that not only fosters surface comfort but should also help wick away moisture and heat. This luxurious cover surrounds the 10 inches of bedding beneath.

The stitching has a decorative pattern that makes this bed look even more luxurious. However, you won’t be able to feel this under your sheets, so don’t worry about it being uncomfortable. In addition, the white makes the purple logo and accents stand out even more, adding to the overall attractive design.

awara construction
  • The comfort layer is topped off with 2 inches of Rainforest Alliance-certified all-natural Dunlop latex. This soft yet durable material provides comfort to the sleeper’s body by conforming to their curves and fostering surface bounce to facilitate repositioning.
  • The support layer uses 8 inches of premium coils. This delivers a deeper bounce and sustains support and alignment. The individually wrapped coils target specific areas of the body by compressing at varying amounts to foster a neutral sleeping position that distributes weight evenly over the surface. In addition, the wrapping around the coils helps foster motion isolation.
  • Edge reinforcement is provided by a row of stronger perimeter coils that are designed to support increased weight along the sides.
  • The base cover is a luxe cotton/polyester material with four built-in handles for easy moving.

Unboxing & Off-Gassing

The Awara ships to your home rolled and compressed into a box, so it may need up to 24 hours to take shape before you lie on it. Setting it up should be easy as the base cover has four handles for moving the mattress. You can place it on your bed foundation as soon as you unpack it, allowing it to decompress right on the foundation.

Although Awara usually offers White Glove Delivery, the service is currently unavailable. For this reason, make sure to have a friend or family member help you move the mattress from your doorstep to the bedroom.

The Awara Natural Hybrid mattress doesn’t feature materials commonly known for off-gassing. However, the bed might still have that new-mattress odor, so you may want to let it vent for a few hours if you’re sensitive to smells.

Certifications

  • Eco-Friendly Certifications – This product was certified by OEKO-TEX®, which evaluates textiles at all processing levels for acceptable levels of hazardous chemicals and flame retardants. It has a GREENGUARD Gold certification that reflects the product’s ability to meet some of the world’s most rigorous emissions standards. The mattress is also certified by Rainforest Alliance, Repreve, Wools of New Zealand, and Forest Stewardship Council.

Noteworthy Updates:

Awara partnered with the Forest Stewardship Council to guarantee that the wood used in their products is only from well-managed forests of small forest communities that are committed to the environment. Awara also plants 10 trees for every mattress sold.

Coupons, Trials, Warranties, and Shipping

  • Shipping – The brand offers free shipping and returns within the contiguous United States, with available shipping to Hawaii and Alaska for an additional fee.
  • White-Glove Delivery – White-Glove Delivery is currently unavailable.
  • Trial – Customers can enjoy a 365-night trial that permits them to try out this bed and return within that time.
  • Warranty – This product is covered by an industry-rare forever warranty.
  • Return Policy – Returns are free should you want to return your mattress within the 365-night trial. However, the company suggests you keep the bed for at least 30 nights, which is the recommended break-in period.
