Our In-Depth Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid Mattress Review for 2024

Side sleepers know the struggle of falling asleep with pressure build-up in the shoulders, knees, and hips. Those who sleep on the side have their weight concentrated across a narrow surface, which can be uncomfortable if your bed isn’t made to accommodate this position.

The Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid can help relieve some of that tension as it’s specially made for side sleepers. The carefully selected foams are made to shape around your shoulders, hips, and other joints to ensure cushioning and pressure relief. In this review, we’ll discuss the construction, benefits, and performance to help you decide if the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid is a good choice for you.

Pros
The Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid has a unique three-layer support system called the AirFoam™ Flex Dynamic Support System.
We rated this foam mattress a 5 on our firmness scale. This means it has versatile medium firmness.
The Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid has multiple temperature-regulating materials, including a cooling cover and Nolah AirFoam™.
Cons
Although this is one of the most standout hybrid designs, it’s not a classic hybrid with coils. The bed offers strong support but may lack the bounce and quick response you get from coils.
Stomach sleepers need a firm mattress that doesn’t allow the hips to sink into the first few layers. The hip area is the heaviest one for most people sleeping on their stomachs, which is why they need firm support. This Nolah Signature may be too soft even though it’s more on the firm side.

Who We Recommend The Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid For:

  • Side sleepers – This bed has a mid-range firmness, so it should feel good in most sleeping positions. However, its foam construction makes it among the best options for side sleepers struggling with pressure build-up in the shoulders, hips, and knees.
  • Classic foam fans – Those who like all-foam beds should like how this foam hybrid feels. The construction features five foam layers working together to provide a balance of cushioning, sinkage, pressure relief, and support in different sleeping positions.
  • Couples who need good motion control – The Nolah Signature Foam Hybrid has excellent motion isolation, which is great for couples who don’t want to be disturbed by a restless partner.

Who We Don’t Recommend The Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid For:

  • People who prefer a classic hybrid – Although it’s called a hybrid, this bed doesn’t actually feature any coils. Instead, it has the AirFoam™ Flex Dynamic Support System in its three bottom layers. The system adapts to your curves and movements, but those who prefer a classic hybrid mattress may want to look elsewhere.
  • Stomach sleepers – Although this Nolah should fit a range of sleepers, some stomach sleepers may find it too soft. Stomach sleepers need maximum support to keep the hips aligned, and those who weigh over 170 pounds may not get this from the Nolah Signature Foam Hybrid.

Customer Reviews of the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid Mattress

The Nolah Signature gets 4.8 out of 5 stars on Nolah’s website. While many customers mentioned that they appreciated the bed’s pressure-relieving capabilities, some noted they would have liked more relief.

Testing the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid Mattress

Sleep Advisor’s Testing Methodology

We tested the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid to have a better idea of how it performs in different sleeping positions and for people with different body weights. We also tested for motion isolation, edge support, bounce, cooling, pressure relief, and support, all of which are important when buying a new mattress.

This Nolah Signature showed good performance in most of these tests, so it should be a good fit for many people, including couples.

Firmness & Feel

Firmness Scale: 5/10

Please remember that firmness is a subjective characteristic and your shape will dictate how you experience a bed. A heavier person whose weight can more easily push through softer comfort and support layers may experience a bed as softer than a lightweight person. The way you are shaped could also play a role here. Consider your weight, shape, and size when evaluating firmness scores.

firmness scale 5

The Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid is rated 5 on our firmness scale, with 10 being the firmest and 1 being the softest. This places it slightly over the middle and on the firmer side of the scale. The medium firmness should feel good to most back and side sleepers, especially those who are lighter in weight.

How Does It Feel?

The top layer of the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid allows a bit of sinkage to contour your curves for great pressure relief, which should help if you struggle with discomfort. Back sleepers on this bed may feel their hips sinking a bit, but this shouldn’t throw the spine out of alignment. Instead, the lower layers of the support system should keep everything straight, although how this bed feels will also on your weight.

Sleeping Positions for Different Body Types

According to Nolah, the Signature All-Foam Hybrid can handle different weights depending on the bed size you choose. The smaller sizes, such as Twin, Twin XL, and Full, can handle up to 300 pounds, whereas the Queen, King, and California King can handle up to 600 pounds. If you’re sharing the bed, keep in mind that each side can accommodate up to 300 pounds for these larger sizes.

Side Sleepers

  • Lightweight Sleepers – We think lightweight side sleepers should like the plush AirFoam™ layer offering a bit of sinkage. However, significantly lighter people may prefer an even softer mattress.
  • Average Weight Sleepers – Average-weight side sleepers should sink just enough without throwing the spine out of alignment. They’ll feel the foam contouring the pressure points while the support system ensures a healthy sleeping posture.
  • Heavyweight Sleepers – The Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid is likely too soft for heavy sleepers, especially those sleeping on their side since most of their weight is concentrated across a narrow surface.
Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid side sleepers

Back Sleepers

  • Lightweight Sleepers – Back sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds should like Nolah’s balance of pressure relief and support, especially if they prefer sleeping “on” the mattress instead of “in” it.
  • Average Weight Sleepers – Sleepers weighing closer to 200 pounds may sink a bit more but are unlikely to sink too deeply due to the bed’s firmness and support unit.
  • Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavyweight sleepers may find their hips sinking too deeply, which can result in waking up with back pain. Some heavyweight back sleepers who prefer a softer bed may like how it feels, but most are likely to find this bed too soft.
Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid back sleeper testing

Stomach Sleepers

  • Lightweight Sleepers – People weighing under 130 pounds may find sufficient support in the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid mattress, but this depends on how they prefer their bed to feel.
  • Average Weight Sleepers – We’d say average-weight stomach sleepers, especially those weighing closer to 200 pounds, are likely to find this bed too soft to keep the hips aligned.
  • Heavyweight Sleepers – Heavy sleepers are unlikely to find sufficient support in Nolah’s all-foam construction and mid-range firmness. The bed feels too soft and may even make it difficult to reposition.

Pressure Relief

5/5

From our experience, the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid is good for people with pressure buildup, as it has a plush layer of AirFoam™ that allows a bit of cradling and just enough sinkage. The foam contours sensitive points like your shoulders, hips, and knees, which should help with pressure relief.

When it comes to pain relief, the mattress combines plush upper layers with firmer bottom ones to keep the body in a healthy posture, which should help relieve pain in the back, neck, and hips.

Learn more: Best Mattresses for Pressure Relief

Is the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid Mattress Good for Pain Relief?

We think the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid should do a good job of relieving pain for lightweight and average-weight sleepers. The foams should contour to their bodies while also providing spinal support. Heavier people may want something more supportive, though, to prevent them from sagging too far down in the bed.

Back Pain

While we think this Nolah bed could provide enough spinal support to most back and side sleepers, stomach sleepers could find their back alignment compromised. This is because the softer feel could allow their midsection to dip too much, causing the lower back to uncomfortably curve. Explore our picks for the best mattresses for back pain here.

Hip Pain

Hip pain is common among side sleepers, which is why these people usually steer towards softer beds. The plushness of this bed should give lightweight and average-weight side sleepers good relief around their hips. However, it may not provide heavyweight sleepers with enough support. Browse the best mattresses for hip pain here.

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain is also a problem side sleepers usually struggle with. Those weighing around 150 pounds or less should find sufficient relief in the Signature All-Foam Hybrid, but those who weigh more may want a firmer mattress with more support. Find beds for shoulder pain here.

Support

4/5

The Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid has a strong support unit, although it’s not a classic hybrid mattress with coils. The AirFoam™ Flex Dynamic Support System is what sets this mattress apart from other foam beds, as it’s made from three layers of high-density foam.

The system is designed to perform like coils, offering similar levels of responsiveness and flexibility. The first and third layers have micro-cut waves that help the mattress adapt to your body and movement. The second layer in this system is a high-density AirFoam™ HD that acts as the main support layer because it’s the firmest and most durable.

Motion Transfer

4/5

This Nolah bed is made entirely out of foam, which makes it a good option if you’re after a mattress with motion-isolating properties. As Stuart noted in his testing of this bed, the motion transfer on this Nolah model was pretty minimal. This means you and your partner can enjoy a peaceful sleeping experience even if one of you is a restless sleeper or likes changing positions throughout the night.

Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid motion testing

Temperature Regulation / Cooling

4/5

This Nolah mattress has a cooling cover made from cotton. Cotton is naturally breathable and moisture-wicking. In addition, the 2-inch layer of AirFoam™ enhances the cooling and breathability to prevent the rest of the mattress from overheating. This won’t be as cool as a traditional hybrid with coils, though, so if you’re an extra-hot sleeper, you might not like this Nolah bed.

Bounce

3.5/5

Given its all-foam construction, this bed doesn’t provide considerable bounce. That said, one our testers, Stuart Petty, noted that this bed didn’t leave him feeling so stuck that he couldn’t move.

Edge Support

3/5

A bed with good edge support can benefit couples and those with mobility issues. This feature keeps you secure even if you’re sitting or sleeping on the perimeter of the bed, allowing couples to use the whole sleeping surface and those who aren’t as mobile to easily get out of bed.

Unfortunately, our testers say the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid didn’t have the best edge support, so this could leave you disappointed here.

Laying on the edge of the Nolah to test its edge support.

Performance for Couples

3.5/5

This Nolah model has strong motion isolation, which makes it a viable fit for restless partners or those with different sleeping schedules. However, it lacks good edge support, which would allow couples to use the entire surface of the bed if they want to spread out. It also doesn’t have much, which means sexually active partners may not like it as much.

Unique Support System

This hybrid is unique because it doesn’t have coils but a 3-layer support system made up of AirFoam™. The first AirFoam™ layer in this system has micro-cut waves. Next comes high-density AirFoam™ that acts as the main support layer, followed by another layer of AirFoam™ with micro-cut waves.

Construction: What’s Inside the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid Mattress

The Nolah Signature Foam Hybrid is 12 inches tall and features five foam layers, three of which are part of the bed’s support system. The cover of this mattress is made with organic cotton cover and is designed to enhance breathability for cooling at the surface.

  • The first comfort layer is made of 2 inches of AirFoam™ that contours to your body. The foam cushions your curves and sensitive points without trapping you inside.
  • The next comfort layer is a more responsive foam. This durable layer enhances support while allowing airflow so that the foam construction doesn’t overheat.
  • The AirFoam™ Flex Dynamic Support System starts with a foam layer with micro-cut waves. This helps mimic the coils in a traditional hybrid.
  • Next is high-density AirFoam™ HD foam, acting as the bed’s main support unit that holds your body in alignment while ensuring the rest of the layers don’t sink in.
  • The bottom is another layer of foam with micro-cut waves added to enhance the bed’s durability and support.

The three layers of the AirFoam™ Flex Dynamic Support System work together to follow your changes in movement, adapting to your body in different positions. In addition, this system helps keep your body aligned, ensuring a healthy sleeping posture as you move throughout the night.

Unboxing & Off-Gassing

The Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid comes in a box, so it’s easy to carry from your front door to the bedroom. However, we suggest two people do this as the box can be heavy. Nolah also offers white glove delivery, which is a professional service that can remove your old mattress and set up the new one.

Place the box on your foundation of choice and remove the packaging so that the mattress can unroll. This shouldn’t last too long, so you’ll know your mattress is ready once all the wrinkles from the cover are gone. Any off-gassing should also dissipate within 24 hours, but if you notice it still lingers, allow the bed to vent for a little longer.

Certifications

  • Eco-Friendly Certifications – The foams in this bed are CertiPUR-US® certified. CertiPUR-US® is a third-party program that ensures the foams meet rigorous health and safety standards. This means they don’t contain harmful substances like ozone depleters, PBDEs, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. They should also have low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

Is the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid a durable mattress?

The Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid mattress is a durable mattress made from quality materials. The bed should last seven to 10 years thanks to its quality manufacturing and carefully selected materials that allow even wear and tear.

Is the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid a flippable mattress?

The Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid mattress isn’t flippable, so you should avoid flipping it. Although you can rotate the mattress to ensure even wear and tear, flipping it would mess up the order of layers, which would then also mess up their performance.

Our Verdict

After having our testers try out this bed in person, we’d say the Nolah Signature All-Foam Hybrid is a high-value mattress with plenty to offer. The bed has a good combination of pressure relief and support for those who like sleeping on their side and back.

Heavyweight sleepers and those who like sleeping on their stomach may want a firmer bed, though.

This bed had good motion isolation, which could make it a great choice for those with a restless co-sleeper, though we wish the bed had strong edges for spreading out. This bed earned an overall rating of 4 out of 5.
